Report: Serie A club want to take Tottenham 20-year-old on loan in January

Corriere dello Sport have claimed that Alejo Veliz has emerged as Bologna’s top striker target in January.

Veliz was signed by Tottenham as a prospect for the future rather than as someone who could have an instant impact on the first team.

However, the injury issues that Ange Postecoglou has dealt with in his forward line have meant that the Argentine has already made three appearances off the bench for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt).

It was reported by the print edition of Corriere Dello Sport (via Sport Witness) last week that Bologna are eyeing a loan move for the Argentine in January.

The outlet explained that the Serie A club showed an interest in the 20-year-old last summer as well but were beaten to his signature by Spurs.

The same publication have now shed more light on Bologna’s interest in the Tottenham striker. They explain that Thiago Motta’s men are keen on signing a number nine and have compiled a ‘preference list’, with Veliz ‘in first place’.

The report adds that the Italian side are waiting to see if Ange Postecoglou is willing to let the youngster leave on loan, with the player said to be in favour of a temporary switch so that he can get game time under his belt.

Curiously, Corriere also add that Bologna technical director Giovanni Sartori would explore adding an option to buy in any loan deal for Veliz.

Tottenham will certainly not include any option to buy in a loan deal for Veliz but they would be tempted to green-light a temporary move for the striker as he needs to competitive game time under his belt to fast-forward his development.
