Report: Serie A club will hold talks with Spurs about midfielder in January

Foot Mercato have revealed that Napoli and Tottenham are expected to enter into talks at the start of January regarding the permanent transfer of Tanguy Ndombele.

Ndombele struggled to get starts under his belt at Napoli in his first couple of months following his loan move from Spurs in the summer.

However, the Frenchman did make a good impression when opportunities came his way in October and multiple Italian publications have suggested over recent weeks that Luciano Spalletti’s men want to sign the midfielder permanently (Il Mattino via Forza Azzurri).

Foot Mercato have now backed up that claim, stating that Napoli are planning to hold talks with the Spurs hierarchy regarding Ndombele at the start of next month.

The report explains that although the Serie A club have the option to sign the 26-year-old permanently for €30m (£26.4m), they wish to negotiate the price down. The French publication adds that Napoli’s mission ‘will not be easy’ given the uncompromising negotiation style of Daniel Levy.

I think Tottenham might consider selling Ndombele for a fee lower than the £26m purchase option as the club’s priority would be getting the Frenchman’s salary off their wage bill to free up space for the new signings that arrive through the door in January.
