Report: Serie A giants looking for buyers in Premier League for Spurs-linked centre-back

Inter Milan are ready to part ways with Stefan de Vrij, who has attracted interest from Tottenham in the past (Gazzetta dello Sport 03/07/22 via CalcioMercato and TuttoMercatoWeb).

De Vrij, who joined Inter in 2018, has just one year remaining on his current contract at the San Siro and reports now claim that I Nerazzurri are prepared to sell the centre-back this summer (Calciomercato).

The 30-year-old enjoyed a fantastic season under Spurs boss Antonio Conte when the Italian guided Inter to their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Past reports suggested that Conte is open to a reunion with the Dutchman in North London as he looks to strengthen his defensive options (InterLive).

Football Insider also reported this summer that Spurs were fighting Aston Villa for de Vrij’s signature, with Inter said to be valuing him at around £15m.

The report claims that Inter do not want another Ivan Perisic situation and are thus looking for potential buyers in the Premier League for de Vrij, to guarantee a transfer fee.

However, with The Sun claiming that Clement Lenglet has agreed personal terms with Spurs ahead of a loan move from La Liga giants Barcelona, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be in the market for multiple centre-backs.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am all for getting in de Vrij to provide competition for Eric Dier in that central centre-back role. The guy is an experienced winner and knows exactly what Conte wants from him in that system. With the signing of Richarlison providing excellent depth up front, why not go and do the same at the back?
