Report: Serie A giants ready to wait to land Spurs star on a free transfer

Jan Vertonghen is attracting interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan, according to Italian news out Sky Italia.

The Belgian, who is out of contract at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season was only named on the bench for the 2-1 defeat at Liverpool with Mauricio Pochettino instead deciding to start with Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez at the heart of his defence.

The 32-year-old has found himself in and out of the first team this season with the Spurs boss deciding to rotate his defence, rather than stick with a consistent back four.

Vertonghen recently refused to commit his future to Tottenham and instead insisted that he has what it takes to still play at the top level for a couple of more seasons (Express).

The report suggests that Inter boss Antonio Conte is keen to add Vertonghen to his squad, but is prepared to wait until the summer when he can land the former Ajax man on a free transfer.

Vertonghen moved to White Hart Lane in 2012 and has gone on to make 215 Premier League appearances in Spurs colours.
