Report: Serie A midfielder is waiting for likes of Spurs to come and sign him

The latest report from Corriere dello Sport claims Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie is still waiting for the likes of Tottenham to make a move for him (via SportWitness 17/01/23).

McKennie joined the Turin club in the summer of 2021 and has been a relatively consistent performer for Juventus since. He has three goals and an assist in 19 games this season (Transfermarkt).

The USA international has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur for quite some time now (La Repubblica and Ben Jacobs). It is believed that Juventus are willing to cash in on the player and would accept a bid of around €35m-€40m (£30.9m-£35.3m) according to CalcioMercatoWeb.

Despite interest from other Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa (Numero Diez), Bournemouth and Chelsea, and Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund (Corriere della Sera), McKennie is still a Juventus player at this moment in time.

With days running out for the January transfer market, McKennie will need something to happen soon if he is to get that move away from Italy he is reportedly looking for. However, no approaches have been made yet according to the new report from Corriere dello Sport.

Apparently, McKennie has not had his head turned by the likes of Villa and Bournemouth, and “awaits the reappearance of more famous teams on the horizon”, with Spurs, Chelsea, and Borussia Dortmund showing interest in the past.

The player reportedly is more keen on the big clubs playing in Europe and “seems to be waiting for them.”

The stance of the player is thought to be a blow for Juventus, who were reportedly happy to accept the offers from Villa and Bournemouth, with the two clubs “willing to guarantee” the desired fee.

Spurs Web Opinion

Like many targets we have been looking at for the central midfield role, I just don’t see McKennie offering enough of a difference for us that a move for him would be a priority at this moment in time. There are better options out there, and better options in our current squad.
