Report: Serie A side told to pay £8.7m for player or risk Spurs swooping

Reports out of Italy suggest Tottenham Hotspur are still circling for Uruguayan defender, Sebastian Caceres, and his current club are now putting pressure on Torino to meet their asking price quickly or face the ‘risk’ of missing out on the signing altogether.

It is no secret that Tottenham are on the hunt for a new centre-back in the January transfer market, and it is believed that area is the top priority for Ange Postecoglou to address next month (Telegraph).

With Micky van de Ven out injured, the Spurs backline is looking a little weaker than it was in the early stages of the season. As such, a number of names have been linked with a move to North London.

Spurs could swoop for Sebastian Caceres

Sebastian Caceres is one name that has not been mentioned for a while, despite previously being strongly linked with the Lilywhites. According to Fernando Ezquivel, Tottenham submitted a £3.5m offer for the player, but Club America were looking for closer to £7m.

Competition for the signature of the highly-rated Uruguayan is fierce, and Italian side Torino are the latest to be trying their luck to sign Caceres. It is thought the player’s agent has held talks with Torino and Tottenham recently (TuttoSport).

Apparently, Torino have already offered €7m (£6.06m) for the 24-year-old, but Club America are sticking to their guns and demanding between €8-10m (£6.9-8.7m) to let their defender leave (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Torino have been told to act swiftly if they want to get the transfer wrapped up, lest they face the “risk” of losing out entirely when Premier League clubs, “in particular” Tottenham, come in with offers in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am a little bit torn on this one. I really like Jean-Clair Todibo and I think he should be our prime target in January, but with Caceres being so cheap, I wonder whether we sign them both and have our centre-back roster sorted for the next few years.
