Report: Serie A star rumoured to be wanted by Spurs is heading for exit door

According to Corriere dello Sport, rumoured Tottenham target Jordan Veretout is expected to leave AS Roma this summer.

Reports from Italy claimed during the January transfer window that Spurs tried to snap up Veretout (Tuttosport 19/01/22 edition – via Sport Witness).

However, the midfielder ended up staying put at the Stadio Olimpico after Jose Mourinho allegedly blocked his exit (The Athletic).

Spurs raided Juventus for Rodrigo Bentancur instead and the Uruguayan has made a promising start to life in North London but the Lilywhites have been backed to reignite their interest in the Roma star this summer (CalcioMercato).

Corriere have now revealed that Veretout is on his way out of the Italian capital after failing to agree on a new contract with the Giallorossi.

It is asserted that Roma offered the 29-year-old a contract worth €3.5m (£2.9m) per season but the player demanded a salary of €6m (£5m) – the same as the club’s top earners.

Veretout is thus expected to be sold for a cut-price transfer fee by the Serie A side this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Veretout would not improve our starting eleven but he would be a decent addition to the squad, particularly if Harry Winks is sold. He is unlikely to cost more than £15m-£20m and Spurs could thus be tempted to do a deal.
