Report: Seven clubs have expressed an interest in 20-year-old Spurs player

The Athletic have revealed that as many as seven clubs have expressed an interest in signing Ryan Sessegnon from Tottenham this summer but that the North Londoners are determined to hold on to the youngster.

Sessegnon’s first season at Tottenham has not gone the way he would have hoped for following his £25million switch from Fulham last summer.

It was previously reported that the 20-year-old is frustrated at the lack of opportunities this season and it was suggested that he could be loaned out (Telegraph).

The Athletic now claim that Barcelona enquired about signing the England Under-21 international on loan but Jose Mourinho was quick to reject their approach.

It is also revealed that Ajax, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United and Celtic have all conveyed their interest in Sessegnon but Spurs are in no mood to let him leave this summer.

Jose Mourinho is said to believe that the youngster can fulfil his potential at Spurs and expects the former Fulham man to get more games under his belt next season.

The report suggests that Sessegnon is also determined to prove himself at Tottenham, although he is unlikely to put up with another campaign like last one.

The left-sided player bagged Tottenham’s first goal of pre-season when he netted in the 3-0 win against Ipswich.

Spurs Web Opinion

From watching Sessegnon against Ipswich, it is clear that he has put on quite a bit of muscle over the summer break. However, if he stays at Spurs, I cannot see him playing more than 10 or 15 games next season. Loaning the 20-year-old to a Premier League side might be the best thing for his development.
