Report: Sheffield United make contact with Spurs officials over deal for winger

Sheffield United are set to rival Sunderland for the signing of Tottenham winger Jack Clarke, according to The Northern Echo.

The Blades have cited their interest in acquiring the 21-year-old this summer after making contact with officials from Spurs about a transfer.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side face stiff competition from Sunderland, however, who are thought to be keen on luring Clarke back to the Stadium of Light on a permanent basis (Craig Hope).

The same report explains the Black Cats are pushing to land the England youth international and have been in communication with Tottenham, although they are still waiting to see if he is included in Antonio Conte’s pre-season plans.

Clarke loan split last season between Sunderland and Stoke respectively and played a key role in helping Alex Neil’s side secure promotion back to the Championship via the play-offs.

A possible exit from Spurs, who signed him from Leeds in 2019, would see him leave the club having made just four first-team appearances with none of those coming in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

Tottenham will be happy that there is some competition in the race for Clarke as it could somewhat drive his price up a little.

A move to Sunderland does look the likeliest for him at the moment as he did have a decent loan spell there towards the back end of last season.
