Report: Signing 22-year-old was one of Conte’s ‘first requests’ to Spurs

CalcioMercato have revealed that Antonio Conte wanted to bring Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie to Tottenham if he was to become the North London club’s next coach.

Tottenham appeared close to agreeing a deal with Conte last week but talks between the two parties collapsed.

It has since been reported that some of Conte’s transfer demands were seen by the North London club’s hierarchy as unrealistic.

Spurs have since seemingly turned their attention to Paulo Fonseca, who is now said to be in advanced talks with the club.

Calcio Mercato claim that one of Conte’s demands during his talks with Tottenham was that the North London club sign McKennie from Juventus.

It is explained that the former Inter Milan boss rates the 22-year-old highly and the USA international was ‘one of the first requests’ he made to Tottenham.

Interestingly, McKennie also seems to have been on Tottenham’s radar previously, with the midfielder being linked with a move to the Premier League club last summer, as well as ahead of the January transfer window.
