AS have claimed that Xavi Hernandez believes Giovani Lo Celso will be the ‘icing on the cake’ as he continues to reshape his Barcelona squad ahead of the new season.
Earlier this week, we relayed a report from Mundo Deportivo (21/06/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), which claimed that Xavi as well as the Barca hierarchy were keen on bringing Lo Celso to Camp Nou this summer.
The publication stated that the Catalan club could propose a swap deal involving Clement Lenglet to Tottenham or could potentially even look to sign the Argentine on an initial loan deal from the North London club.
Barcelona are very keen on Giovani Lo Celso
AS have now backed up Barca’s interest in Lo Celso, revealing that the Spurs star’s name was discussed in the latest meeting of the La Liga giants’ leadership earlier this week.
It is explained that Xavi himself is pushing for the midfielder to be signed, with the 43-year-old wanting the Argentina international to fulfil the role that he previously hoped would be occupied by Lionel Messi.
AS add that Xavi views Lo Celso as the ‘icing on the cake’, owing to the 27-year-old’s versatility and his ability to have a decisive impact in the final third.
Spurs Web Opinion
I expect Tottenham to sell Lo Celso to the highest bidder this summer as the Argentine seems to be the most sellable asset among the players who are deemed surplus to requirements.
While the 27-year-old might be keen on a switch to Camp Nou, I do not see any reason for Spurs to allow him to leave on loan.
