Report: Signing Tottenham player remains a ‘priority’ for La Liga club

According to a report in Diario De Sevilla (04/01/23 as translated by Sport Witness), Sevilla remain keen on snapping up Bryan Gil in January.

Multiple reports over recent months (Football.London and Evening Standard) have suggested that Tottenham could loan Gil out in January, with Antonio Conte wanting a readymade replacement for the winger.

The likes of Valencia, Sevilla, Real Sociedad, Cadiz and Mallorca have all been credited with an interest in signing the 21-year-old on loan (Estadio Deportivo).

Gil has started Tottenham’s last two Premier League games against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace amidst the injuries the club have in their forward line, with Spain international grabbing those opportunities with both hands.

He was instrumental in Spurs’ 4-0 win at Selhurst Park yesterday, setting up one goal and being involved in the build-up to two others.

Conte lavished praise on the winger in his post-match press conference and suggested that he does not want to loan out the young players at the club, given that Spurs are involved in three competitions over the coming weeks and months (Football.London).

However, if Diario De Sevilla’s latest update is to be believed, Sevilla have not given up hope of bringing Gil back to the club this month.

The report explains that Jorge Sampaoli’s side are prioritising a move for a left-footed centre-back during the current transfer window as well as a potential move for the Spurs winger, but only if the Lilywhites sign a replacement.

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect Tottenham to sign another winger/forward during this window, which is why it will be in our best interest to loan Gil out so that he can get regular game time under his belt and return to the club a better player next season. Warming the bench for another six months at Spurs is going to be detrimental to the 21-year-old’s development.
