Report: Signs that progress is being made as Spurs look to offload fullback

According to the print edition of AS (31/07/23 – as relayed by Sport Witness), Real Sociedad have now identified Sergio Reguilon as a target and are making positive strides in their efforts to sign the Tottenham man.

The report states that Sociedad are keen to sign a left-back before the new season gets underway, with Reguilon said to be one of the names at the top of the club’s wishlist.

It is claimed that the club’s interest in the Spurs star ‘has never stopped’, with the La Liga side making their first contact with the North London club over the player back in June.

Since then, Sociedad are thought to have also explored deals for Manchester City’s Sergio Gomez and Paris Saint-Germain’s Juan Bernat.

However, it is explained that the club have reactivated contacts with Tottenham over Reguilon and there are now ‘signs of [the deal] prospering’ for the former Real Madrid man.

The report adds that there is some optimism regarding the deal following the ‘new contacts’ between the two clubs but is not revealed if Sociedad want to sign the 26-year-old on loan or permanently.

Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie are likely to battle it out for the left-back spot this season, which likely means that Reguilon is surplus to requirements.

I do not think Ryan Sessegnon’s injury will change Tottenham’s plans for the Spaniard but the club would probably have to loan him out again as not a lot of clubs in La Liga have the financial means to pay a suitable transfer fee for the 26-year-old.
