Report: Some Korean fans think Heung-min Son is being used as a scapegoat amid recent drama

Football.London have confirmed that Son Heung-min had actually been playing peacemaker when his South Korean teammates got into an altercation during the Asian Cup in Qatar.

Spurs fans would have noticed that Son’s fingers were strapped up against Brighton last Saturday and The Sun explained earlier this week that that the forward had dislocated his fingers as a result of a fight that broke out within the South Korean squad.

The report explained that the row, which happened in the event of the semi-final clash against Jordan, started when a couple of the younger players, including Paris Saint-Germain star Lee Kang-in, left dinner early to play ping-pong.

This allegedly did not sit well with the Tottenham man, who saw the dinner as an opportunity for the team to bond. A source was quoted as saying in the report that Son had picked up an injury when he was trying to break up the fight.

Heung-min Son was actually trying to break up the fight

This has now been confirmed by Football.London who assert that the 31-year-old tried to diffuse the situation when the altercation broke out, which is why he ended up dislocating his finger.

The publication also spoke to Korean journalist Sungmo Lee, who explained that the KFA might have leaked the information to deflect attention away from their role in the nation’s poor showing at the tournament.

Lee said: “While the KFA admitted that there was an issue among Korean players including Son and Lee Kang-in, it was very weird that the story broke out from foreign media and then the KFA admitted the story right away.

“Considering the timing and circumstances, Korean fans and media suspected that maybe the KFA was trying to turn people’s attention from Klinsmann and themselves to Son and Lee’s issue as they are the two biggest football stars in South Korea right now.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We know Sonny is certainly not the type of character to start an altercation and it stands to reason that he might have picked up the injury breaking up the fight.

The fact that his information has leaked now rather than the day after South Korea’s loss to Jordan suggests that it might indeed be deliberate to deflect blame.
