Report: Some Spurs fans have paid £850 to sponsor Dane Scarlett at Portsmouth

Some Tottenham Hotspur supporters have shown their support by sponsoring Dane Scarlett during his loan spell at Portsmouth, according to Football.London.

Tottenham facilitated a season-long loan move for Scarlett, who will ply his trade with Pompey in League One this season (The Sun).

The youngster already has four appearances to his name so far, although he has not broken the deadlock just yet (Transfermarkt).

The U-19 England international recently made his first start for the League One outfit in the 3-0 victory against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup, and again against Cheltenham in the league.

Despite not getting in on the goals, he has already made an impression on his fellow teammates in a short time.

Joe Pigott recently lauded the 18-year-old for posing a threat to the opposition with his sharp and powerful runs that terrorise defenders (The News Portsmouth).

Scarlett appears to be seamlessly adapting to the new surroundings, and now some Spurs fans have done their part to help in that regard.

The Portsmouth Spurs Official Supporters’ Club have raised £850 to sponsor Scarlett during his temporary spell with Danny Cowley’s team. This amount will cover his expenses at Fratton Park for Portsmouth, which include the cost of kits, usage of training facilities, and travel in this campaign.

Lee Hickley, treasurer of the Portsmouth Spurs Official Supporters’ Club, said: “We wanted to show Dane some love, to make him feel at home on the south coast.

“As a group, we wanted to do something big to show a young talent it’s not just the first team players we love.”

“Being a Portsmouth-based Spurs official supporters’ club it was a no-brainer to get involved as he’s one of our own and will help to spread awareness of our club in a uniquely positive way.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It is good to see our supporters getting involved with the rising talents to show them how they are valued greatly by the fans. This gesture would probably make Scarlett feel like he is closer to home, which in turn would help him quickly adapt to his loan club.

At the same time, it would also help to create a positive image of the club among the lower division teams like Portsmouth. Creating such support would always be good as it may potentially lead to beneficial ties in the long run.
