Report: Some Spurs fans may hate what Matt Doherty said on Twitter in 2012

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans may not like what Matt Doherty said about their North London rivals, Arsenal back in 2012 amidst rumours he may join the Lilywhites.

The Daily Star report that Doherty took to Twitter eight years ago to tell fans ‘Yes I’m a HUGE Arsenal fan!’

Of course, it is nothing new for a player to be a boyhood fan of one club and then play for another, as there have been numerous examples of this down the years.

Even current Tottenham stars Serge Aurier and Harry Kane have been pictured in Arsenal shirts in the past, Kane when he was in the Gunners academy (BBC).

Spurs are said to be closing in on the signing of Doherty this summer, with the Independent’s Miguel Delaney reporting that the Lilywhites are set to pay an initial £12m which could rise to £16m with add-ons.

In fact, TalkSport have now reported that a deal is done between the two Premier League sides.

Doherty would become Jose Mourinho’s third signing of the summer with Pierre-Emile Hojbherg and Joe Hart already secured.
