Report: Source claims PSG were ‘already looking for another coach’

A well-placed source has claimed that earlier this week it looked like Mauricio Pochettino would become the new manager at Real Madrid, according to The Athletic.

The Spanish giants were on the look out for a new head coach after Zinedine Zidane quit last month for the second time last week.

The report claims that Madrid’s interest had led Paris Saint-Germain to already begin their search for a replacement.

Instead, Everton’s Carlo Ancelotti returned to the Santiago Bernabéu for his second stint, having signed a three-year deal (BBC).

Pochettino admitted last year that it is ‘a dream’ of his to one day take charge of Real Madrid (Cadena Cope) and has been heavily linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Alasdair Gold claimed yesterday evening that the Argentine told PSG officials last week of his desire to leave and return to Tottenham. However, there have been conflicting reports suggesting that the French outfit are adamant that Pochettino has not told them or club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he wants to leave (Telegraph).

If PSG were on the lookout for a replacement for Pochettino given Real Madrid’s interest, they are likely to also be considering their options if the Argentine has indeed told them he wants to return to North London.

The whole saga is becoming somewhat tiring with the transfer window set to open next week, Daniel Levy needs to get a deal wrapped up, whether that’s Pochettino, Conte, ten Hag or someone else so our squad rebuild can commence.
