Report: Sources claim Newcastle could swoop for Tottenham transfer target

Newcastle battered Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, and now they could be set to ruin the Lilywhites’ transfer plans when it comes to Morgan Gibbs-White, too.

Tottenham‘s trip to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon was a miserable one, with the Magpies running away 4-0 winners and putting a big dent in Spurs’ hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

The two teams are regularly battling out for a seat at the top table in the English top flight nowadays, and as such, are often linked with the same players.

We saw it with James Maddison last summer, and it seems to be happening again now with another creative midfielder — Morgan Gibbs-White.

Football Insider have previously suggested the Nottingham Forest star would be a priority signing for Tottenham in the upcoming transfer window.

Will Morgan Gibbs-White go to Newcastle?

Now, the same outlet claims Newcastle United could swoop in and secure a deal for Gibbs-White instead of Spurs.

It is thought Newcastle have “renewed their interest” in Gibbs-White, and are “ready to join” Spurs in the race to acquire him this summer.

If Forest are relegated, they plan to offload “multiple players” amid financial concerns. The club has already received a points deduction for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations this season, and are now just two points above the drop zone.

Eddie Howe is “expected to have funds to spend” this summer and the Newcastle manager is “keen for his side to challenge in the market,” particularly when it comes to finding “attacking reinforcements.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would really like to see us sign Gibbs-White, and with us looking likely to finish above Newcastle, we should have a good shot at making that happen. It all depends on whether Forest go down, though, as they’re unlikely to want to sell if they stay in the Premier League.
