Report: Sources claim Postecoglou has changed his mind about one Spurs player

Ange Postecoglou may have wanted to sell Emerson Royal last summer, but the Brazilian has completely won his manager over and is not expected to be going anywhere this month, despite links to Saudi Arabia.

In all of his time at Tottenham, Emerson Royal never quite looked like he would make the grade at the club, having failed to perform consistently under Antonio Conte.

However, this season, Royal looks a completely different player under Ange Postecoglou. The full-back has put in some impressive displays throughout the campaign, while offering flexibility in filling in at left-back and centre-back when needed.

In something of a surprise move, Saudi Arabia side Al Nassr made an approach for Royal recently, but Spurs rejected the move (Tom Barclay). At the time, Tottenham did not even respond with an acceptable figure (Ben Jacobs).

It was thought Al Nassr would return with an improved offer in the region of £30m this month (Premier League Brasil as translated by Sport Witness), but that doesn’t seem to have come to fruition.

Postecoglou wanted to sell Emerson Royal, but now he doesn’t

It might not matter anyway, as it would appear the 25-year-old is not available for sale right now, as sources at Football Insider claim Postecoglou is now more than happy with the player, despite being ready to sell Royal when he first took over at Spurs.

The report states Royal “will stay” at the club this month as Spurs are “unwilling to sanction” the departure of a player they now deem to be a valuable squad player.

Apparently, Tottenham were keen to move Royal on in the summer, but it is thought Postecgolou has “changed his mind.”

According to the report, Spurs are likely to sign Antonio Nusa and that would conclude their business for the month, meaning Royal would stay put.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would have definitely backed the club if they decided to sell Emerson Royal last summer, but what a mistake that would have been. He may not always get things right, but he works so hard and has developed into such an adaptable player who brings great value to our squad.
