Report: Sources close to Cristian Romero talks are confident a deal will be agreed

Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to meet with Atalanta this week to continue talks.

The report claims that the two clubs will discuss the proposed transfer of Cristian Romero, with the aim of closing the deal.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has also taken to Twitter this morning to report that sources who are close to the negotiations are confident that an agreement regarding the transfer fee will be successfully reached.

Talks between the two parties are still ongoing with the Argentine defender having already agreed to personal terms with the North Londoners.

Romero is said to be Fabio Paratici’s top defensive target during the summer transfer window (Mail).

Tottenham are on the lookout for another central defender following the recent departure of Toby Alderweireld, who has joined Qatari outfit Al-Duhail.

With Chelsea looking likely to land Jules Kounde, it is key that Spurs are able to get a deal for Romero over the line otherwise they face setting their targets to a lesser quality defender in the likes of Jannik Vestergaard.

Spurs fans are all too used to deals ‘nearly’ being completed, as witnessed with the Milan Skriniar saga last summer.
