Report: Southampton enter the race for rumoured Spurs target

If the latest reports in the press are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur could face a massive battle in the summer if they wish to bring Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana to the club in the summer.

According to a report by The Express, Southampton have become the latest club to enter the race to sign their former player on a free transfer in the summer.

The Daily Mail reported at the start of the month that Lallana will not be extending his stay at Anfield after his contract with Liverpool runs out in June and that Spurs are considering making an offer to the midfielder’s representatives at the end of the season.

The report also credited Spurs’ North London rivals, Arsenal with interest in the 31-year-old.

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Leicester City had stolen a march on both Spurs and Arsenal as they attempt to land the former Southampton star.

It is now revealed that Southampton are hoping to bring back the midfielder back to the South Coast and are hoping to beat Spurs, Arsenal and Leicester to the England international’s signature when the transfer window reopens.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not surprised that there is so much interest in Lallana as I believe the 31-year-old can potentially be a fantastic addition for many sides in the league, particularly on a free transfer. However, I don’t see him being anything more than a squad player at Spurs and I believe he is likely to go somewhere like Southampton where he is guaranteed games.
