Report: Southampton express interest in taking Spurs player on loan

Southampton have expressed an interest in signing Dele Alli on loan until the end of the season, according to The Telegraph.

Dele is reported to be one of the players that Tottenham are desperate to offload before the transfer window slams shut on Monday (Evening Standard).

Earlier this week, Newcastle United were backed to make a move for the England international (The Chronicle) but The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday that the Magpies face competition from the likes of Brighton, Burnley, Everton and Borussia Dortmund for the Tottenham man.

According to The Telegraph, Southampton have become the latest club to express an interest in Alli.

It is said that the Saints wish to take the midfielder to the south coast until the end of the season.

However, the report states that ‘it remains to be seen’ whether or not Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men would be able to cover Alli’s £100,000-a-week salary.

The Telegraph also back up The Mail’s claim about Brighton’s interest in the former MK Dons man, explaining that the Seagulls technical director Dan Ashworth knows the player well.

I always expected a whole host of Premier League clubs to express an interest in Dele in the final week of the window. I suspect Daniel Levy will be pushing for a permanent sale or a loan with an obligation to buy, although it remains to be seen if that would be possible in January.
