Report: Southampton have Tottenham player on list of January targets

According to Sky Sports, Southampton have Djed Spence on their list of possible right-back targets this month, with the 22-year-old being made available for a loan move by Tottenham (Transfer Centre blog 10:42 – 17/1/23).

Despite being well-stocked at right-back, the Saints are reportedly looking for reinforcements due to an ongoing injury to Tino Livramento. Luton’s James Bree and Celtic’s Josip Juranovic are said to be among the top targets, while Djed Spence is also on the list.

Spence has failed to earn a single start since transferring from Middlesbrough in the summer, despite his shining performances in Nottingham Forest’s promotion campaign last time out.

The right-wing-back has been reduced to a number of fleeting cameo appearances off the bench under Antonio Conte, as well as a couple of starts in mid-season friendlies during the World Cup.

However, it appears Southampton are keeping an eye on the young wing-back as a potential January option.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This guy needs a loan more than anyone. He is wasting away on the bench at Spurs. However, if Tottenham do loan him out, it has to be to a club that will guarantee him a starting spot every single week, so maybe not Southampton.
