Report: Southampton reject second Everton offer for rumoured Spurs target

Social media was filled with reports on Tuesday afternoon that Southampton had accepted an offer from Everton for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The news, which was first broken by talkSPORT journalist, Alex Crook, was met with frustration from some Spurs fans who could not believe that the North Londoners had allowed Everton to swoop in for the midfielder.

Tottenham had previously been established as the favourites to sign the 24-year-old, who has one year left to run on his contract with Southampton (Football Insider).

However, talkSPORT have now gone back on their initial claim and revealed that Everton have had both of their offers for Hojbjerg rejected by Southampton.

After an initial offer was turned down, the Toffees’ reportedly made a £20million bid, rising to £25m with potential add-ons, but Southampton are said to be holding out for £35m.

The report does assert that Hojbjerg continues to favour a move to Spurs over Everton.

Spurs Web Opinion

The decision to loan Walker-Peters out to Southampton might prove to be a masterstroke with respect to our pursuit of Hojbjerg as it has given us a major bargaining chip in the deal. I would be extremely surprised if Hasenhuttl does not want to sign the right-back permanently on the back of his performances since the restart.
