Report: Southampton sign two highly-rated Spurs academy prospects

The Athletic have revealed that Southampton have completed a double deal for Tottenham academy prospects Jayden Meghoma and Sam Amo-Ameyaw.

Meghoma is a versatile defender, who can play at centre-back or at left-back while Amo-Ameyaw is a winger, who can play on either flank.

Both players have featured for Tottenham’s Under-18s, with Amo-Ameyaw even having made an appearance for the North London club in Premier League 2.

With both players yet to turn 17, neither of them can sign a professional contract, which is why they have moved to the South Coast on an initial scholarship deal.

The Athletic explained that the Saints snapped up Amo-Ameyaw last week while they have now also concluded a deal for Meghoma, with Tottenham set to receive £1m in compensation for the pair.

The report explains that neither player is expected to go straight into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first-team set-up, despite both being highly thought of by the Saints hierarchy.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that both players have played for Tottenham’s Under-18s already shows how highly they are thought of at the North London club, and the Lilywhites would not have wanted to lose the pair.

However, this is always a problem that big clubs face as up-and-coming young talents know that they have a much better chance of breaking into the first team at a club like Southampton.
