Report: Spanish press heap praise on star Spurs sold this summer for Real Madrid masterclass

It appears that Juan Foyth is continuing to impress in Spain this season with Villarreal, most recently against Real Madrid in La Liga.

Spanish publication, AS, ran the headline ‘Foyth kept Vinicius at bay’ after the former Tottenham defender stood out in the 0-0 match at the Bernabeau on Saturday (via Sport Witness).

The paper reported that Foyth’s ‘commitment is total’ and he showcased a variety of skills during the draw, especially when marking Vinicius out of the game.

It was even reported that he was the most highly-rated performer on the pitch for either side following his permanent transfer from Spurs to the Yellow Submarine over the summer.

SportWitness recall that PSG came close to signing Foyth back in 2017 before a phone call with Mauricio Pochettino convinced the Argentine to make the trip to North London.

However, things didn’t quite work out for the young defender in N17 and he subsequently went on loan to Villarreal, became a right-back, and the La Liga club exercised their option to buy him at the end of last season.

Spurs Web Opinion:

One that got away. Spurs cannot really complain, they had a good enough look at the defender to make a judgement call. It could be a case of Foyth not being well suited to the Premier League… or it could be a lack of chances or a plain mistake from Spurs.
