Report: Spanish side emerge as interested party for Tottenham midfielder

After reports suggesting Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, it has emerged that Atletico Madrid would be interested in signing the player.

Hojbjerg joined Spurs from Southampton back in the summer of 2020 and has been one of the more consistent performers for the Lilywhites during his time in North London.

Despite a dismal campaign all around for Tottenham, Hojbjerg managed returns of five goals and seven assists in 44 appearances in the 2022/23 season (Transfermarkt).

Big changes are afoot at Tottenham Hotspur now, with new manager Ange Postecoglou looking to rebuild the squad to his own liking this summer.

Many players are likely to come and go, and recent speculation has suggested that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be one of the names heading out of the door (90 Min).

Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed rumours of Bayern Munich looking to re-sign their former player were inaccurate, but insisted there is interest in the Danish midfielder from the Bundesliga.

Atletico Madrid are looking at Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

If Hojbjerg was to be made available, it seems he would have options in Spain, too, as TuttoMercatoWeb have thrown Atletico Madrid‘s name into the hat.

Apparently, Hojbjerg is a player who is “in the crosshairs” for the La Liga side this summer and there is believed to be “ongoing contacts” between Atletico and Spurs.

The situation is thought to be a “work in progress” at this stage, but it seems Atletico are certainly “moving” to get their target. Hojbjerg is considered a “favourite” when it comes to bolstering the Spanish side’s midfield.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I would be very disappointed to see Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave the club this summer.

His work rate and passing stats last season were among the highest in the squad, and he would be a big loss to our midfield.
