Report: Spanish side linked with move for one of Fabio Paratici’s first Spurs signings

Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal is this morning being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

Sky Sports News have revealed on their Good Morning Sports Fans show (09:50 – 17/6/22) the La Liga outfit have a long-standing interest in the Brazilian, having wanted to sign him a year ago before he moved to north London.

The right-back joined Tottenham from Barcelona in a £25.73million deal as one of Fabio Paratici’s first signings while Nuno Espirito Santo was still in charge, with the player having penned a contract until 2026 (Sky Sports).

Royal admitted earlier this year that he did not want to leave the Camp Nou, having wanted to succeed at Barcelona but was sold due to their difficult financial position (Cadena Ser).

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Middlesbrough right wing-back Djed Spence, with the England international said to favour a move to Antonio Conte’s side (The Athletic).

If Spence is to join Tottenham, given the amount of interest in Spain for Royal, it is likely that it will be the Brazilian who makes way this summer.

Matt Doherty has shown in the latter stages of last season before his injury that he was becoming familiar with Conte’s expectations on the right with a number of solid performances while Royal has struggled to fully embrace the demands of the Italian.
