Report: Spurs academy starlet nominated for award after bright start to season

Dilan Markanday has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award after starting the campaign in scintillating form.

Markanday has found the back of the net four times already for Tottenham’s Under-23s, scoring his first in the season-opening 2-2 draw with Chelsea before bagging a hat-trick in a 4-2 win at Leeds United seven days later.

The 20-year-old also registered two assists in the development squad’s thrilling 4-3 victory at Stevenage in the Papa John’s Trophy clash last week.

Markanday was named on the bench for the second leg of Tottenham’s Europa Conference League playoff against Pacos De Ferriera by Nuno Espirito Santo and some Spurs fans on social media have been excited to see the youngster training with the first-team.

Tottenham have now confirmed on their official website that the winger has been shortlisted for the monthly Premier League 2 prize for the second time, having also been in the running for April’s award.

It is explained that the shortlist is determined by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel after club coaches nominated the best performance by an opposition player in each of their matches during last month.

Markanday will be competing with Aaron Ramsey (Aston Villa), Omari Giraud-Hutchinson (Arsenal), Evan Ferguson (Brighton), Harvey Vale (Chelsea), James McAtee (Man City), Dylan Stephenson (Newcastle) and Jonathan Tomkinson (Norwich) for the August award.

Spurs Web Opinion

Markanday ended last season in excellent form and has begun this campaign from where he left off. I would not be surprised if Tottenham decide to loan out the winger to a Championship or League One club in January as the 20-year-old is showing that he is too good for the development squad.
