Report: Spurs ace’s representatives have held ‘extensive talks’ with La Liga side

Jan Vertonghen is said to be considering an offer from La Liga side Real Betis, according to a report by the Daily Star.

The central defender’s contract ends next month but Spurs are said to be close to agreeing on an extension that will see him complete the season in North London (Football Insider).

However, the 33-year-old is expected to leave in the summer when his deal runs out wit reports suggesting that he is eyeing a move to Italy or Spain.

The Belgian international has been linked with Inter Milan (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness), Roma and Napoli (Gazzetta dello Sport via TEAMtalk), while Real Betis and Valencia are also said to be interested in his services (Calcio Mercato).

The Daily Star has now revealed that the centre-back’s representatives have already held extensive talks with Betis.

It is claimed that the La Liga side have watched Vertonghen on several occasions this season and believe that he still has a lot to offer despite his age.

Betis are said to have offered the defender a two-year contract, which he is said to be seriously considering.

A move to a side like Real Betis will make a lot of sense for Vertonghen if he is going to leave Spurs. He needs to be playing regular first-team football in order to put himself in the frame for the Belgium team at next summer’s European Championships.
