According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have now taken up the option to extend Joe Rodon’s contract by 12 months even though the centre-back is expected to depart the club this summer.

The report explains that while Rodon’s contract at Spurs is expected to expire this summer, Spurs had an option to extend it until 2025.
While Tottenham decided not to activate similar options for Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga, allowing both players to leave on a free transfer, they have decided to take up the option to extend Welshman’s deal.
It is revealed that the former Swansea man was informed by Spurs of their contract decision last month, with the defender expected to attract plenty of interest this summer on the back of his impressive loan spell at Leeds.

Tottenham extend Joe Rodon’s contract by 12 months
Football.London point out that the extension will ensure that Spurs get a fee for Rodon this summer, with the player not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for next season.
The outlet states that although the 26-year-old enjoyed his stay at Elland Road, it is unclear if Leeds would have the funds to sign him permanently this summer.
The publication adds that the Lilywhites will cash in on Rodon and use the money towards new recruits as they look to rebuild the squad ahead of Postecoglou’s second season in charge.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham were never going to get considerable transfer fees for Sessegnon and Tanganga, which is why the club made the right call to allow them to leave on a free and get on with their careers.
However, Spurs were always going to activate the option to extend Rodon’s loan as he remains a sellable asset and is quite likely to have plenty of suitors this summer.
