Report: Spurs agree new sell-on deal for Marcus Edwards at Sporting Lisbon

A Bola have reported that Tottenham have accepted a partnership with Sporting Lisbon surrounding the transfer of Marcus Edwards this summer (via Sport Witness).

Edwards was sent to Vitória de Guimarães in 2019 on a free transfer, with Tottenham agreeing to instead take 50% of his future potential sale.

Reports this week indicated that Edwards was set to join Sporting in a deal worth around £10m, meaning that Spurs would take £5m.

However, A Bola claim that a deal in which Tottenham took 50% of the fee would have been difficult to agree so Sporting Lisbon contacted the North London club.

The Portuguese club asked Tottenham if they would accept a big percentage of Edwards’ future sale when he leaves Sporting Lisbon, which Daniel Levy and co are said to have accepted.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This seems like a good deal for Tottenham. £5m would have been a nice little payday but, if Edwards continues to improve at Sporting, he could be sold for a whole lot more in the future. I hope that Tottenham also managed to insert a buy-back clause, just in case.
