Report: Spurs aiming to ‘confirm’ loan extension but face competition from Serie A club

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Tottenham Hotspur wish to extend Pierluigi Gollini’s loan spell at the club but face competition from Torino.

There have been several contradictory reports regarding Gollini’s future over the last few weeks, with his loan spell at Spurs about to come to an end this summer.

It was initially reported that Spurs had decided against taking up the option to buy the Italian permanently from Atalanta (Goal), with the club said to be keen on signing West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as Hugo Lloris’ understudy (The Sun).

However, TMW claimed two weeks ago that while Antonio Conte’s men are not willing to activate the €15m (£12.6m) option to buy Gollini, they are keen on extending his loan deal.

Tuttosport (as relayed by Fiorentina.it) reported last week that Torino were showing interest in the 27-year-old, who was alleged to be keen on returning to the Serie A.

If TMW’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are now aiming to ‘confirm’ an extension to Gollini’s loan spell at the club. However, Torino have also allegedly made contact with the Italian international about a move to the club this summer.

It is explained that Gollini is Torino boss Ivan Juric’s preferred choice to be the club’s number one next season and the Atalanta shot-stopper ‘likes’ the idea of moving to Turin.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gollini seems to be loved in the dressing room and it is clear that he has a lot of good friends at Spurs. However, I would be extremely surprised if the 27-year-old decided to stick around at the club for one more season rather than being the first choice elsewhere.
