Report: Spurs among clubs tracking 22-year-old Championship winger

90min have claimed that Tottenham are among the clubs to hold an interest in Middlesbrough winger Isaiah Jones.

Spurs are already expected to raid Middlesbrough for right-back Djed Spence, with reports indicating that the North London club are confident of securing the 21-year-old’s services (Football Insider).

If 90min are to be believed, Spence is not the only Boro youngster that Antonio Conte’s men have their eye on, with Jones also said to be on their radar.

The 21-year-old winger showcased his versatility by operating at wing-back during the 2021/22 campaign and amassed 10 goal contributions in the Championship (Transfermarkt).

The report claims that Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been tracking Jones’ progress closely.

However, 90min also relayed what the Boro star said in an interview to Ur Fresh TV, where the youngster expressed his intention to remain at the Riverside Stadium.

Jones was quoted as saying: “I’m confident and I believe in my own ability, so of course, I believe I can achieve that and play one day in the Premier League, but I know I’ve got to show that level consistently. I know in myself that there is a lot more to come and hearing praise just motivates me to go harder.

“It’s always nice to hear praise, but when people say to me, ‘you should be in the Premier League’ and ‘you should leave Middlesbrough’, I’m like, ‘No, I really enjoy it here’. I’m improving here every day. That’s what I train hard for, to improve and work hard on my weaknesses. I don’t really miss home when I’m up there either. I’ve got my own crib.

“It’s great to hear nice things, but at the same time, you’ve got to stay humble. You get the buzz when people say nice things after games, but ultimately it’s then back to work and focusing on the next game after that. So next season I want to aim for eight to ten goals and about 12-15 assists. I got nine assists this season, but I don’t like the way they do it. They don’t add own goals. If you add own goals, I got 15.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham were eyeing a move for Isaiah Jones, they probably considered him as an option for the right-wing-back role. With Djed Spence now seemingly the North London club’s top target, Spurs are unlikely to push ahead with a move for the 22-year-old.
