Report: Spurs among contenders for 22-year-old Italian international

According to a report from Tuttosport (as translated by Sport Witness), Tottenham could compete with several European heavyweights for Gianluigi Donnarumma’s signature this summer.

Donnarumma, who will be a free agent when his contract with AC Milan runs out at the end of the month, is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

The Italy number one was linked with a move to the North London club ahead of the January transfer window and it was reported in the Italian press back in April that the Premier League club still retained an interest in the goalkeeper ahead of the summer.

Tuttosport have now also named Tottenham as one of the several clubs vying for the 22-year-old’s signature.

The report adds, however, that the Lilywhites could face competition from their London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Roma and Paris Saint-Germain.

It is stated that Juventus could also decide to cash in on Wojciech Szczesny and snap up the AC Milan star.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fabio Paratici’s arrival might well mean that Spurs are more likely to explore the Italian market this summer. The fact that Donnoarumma is available on a free transfer might make him a lucrative option for the club given that we do need to begin searching for Lloris’ long-term replacement.

However, Donnoarumma would likely seek assurances that he would be number one if he is to sign for the club as I do not see the Italian being prepared to play second fiddle to Lloris for a year or two. I also do not expect the club to make a decision on the Frenchman’s future until we appoint a new manager.
