Report: Spurs among host of Premier League clubs monitoring French striker

Tottenham were one of a number of Premier League clubs who sent scouts to watch young Reims striker Hugo Ekitike this weekend, according to 90min.

Ekitike has established himself as a fixture in the Ligue 1 side’s lineup this season after making his debut in October 2020.

The 19-year-old was touted to make a move to Newcastle at points through the January transfer window and, despite the Magpies making a number of offers, a move failed to materialise with the striker unsure about the switch to Tyneside (The Sun).

Eddie Howe’ side now face further competition from Premier League sides, according to 90min, with many watching the youngster in action at the weekend.

‘Big six’ sides Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea were in attendance for Reims’ 5-0 win over Bordeaux, which Ekitike scored in.

Newcastle continued to show their interest, but were also joined by representatives from West Ham and Leicester.

There were also scouts from some of Europe’s biggest clubs in attendance to scout Ekitike, who has notched nine goals and three assists this term (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Ekitike seems to have attracted widespread interest from so many of Europe’s top clubs, so it will make securing a deal for him very competitive. It will likely make him a pricey signing too considering he will have room to develop, so it should be interesting to see how clubs go about enquiring for him in the summer.
