Report: Spurs among nine PL clubs enquiring over Atletico Madrid star

Tottenham are one of nine Premier League clubs to have contacted Atletico Madrid over the potential signing of Kieran Trippier, according to 90min.

Trippier, 31, initially left Tottenham for the Spanish outfit in the summer of 2019 and cemented himself at right-back in Diego Simeone’s side, even winning La Liga last year.

However, reports have tipped the England international to make a return to the Premier League, most recently to Newcastle.

90min now claim that as many as nine clubs in England’s top division have put forward their interest in Trippier ahead of making potential moves in January.

Tottenham are said to have enquired about re-signing the full-back, while his boyhood side Manchester United have also kept tabs on the situation.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have been keen to flex their newly-acquired financial muscles and could look to make Trippier one of Eddie Howe’s first signings.

Elsewhere across the division, Everton, Aston Villa, Wolves and Crystal Palace are said to be some of the other sides monitoring the ongoings in Madrid.

Trippier has made 16 appearances across all competitions for Atletico this season, with Simeone’s men currently sitting fifth in the league table and struggling to mount a solid defence of their title.

Spurs Web Opinion

For Spurs, Trippier seems like one to forget about as the book with him should be already closed. He is also not exactly the type of player that the club usually goes for considering his age while Emerson Royal has just been brought in too, so it doesn’t really point to a transfer happening.
