Report: Spurs among seven PL clubs keeping tabs on Championship striker

Tottenham Hotspur may look to make a move for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz as the Chile international appears to be intent on letting his contract run out at the Championship club.

Spurs splashed the cash on their attack in the summer, adding Richarlison to an already impressive front line. However, recent injuries to the Brazilian and teammates Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-min Son have exposed the lack of depth in the Tottenham squad.

With this in mind, Spurs are expected to add to their squad and Antonio Conte is in line to get the backing of the club in the January transfer window (Evening Standard).

According to Dan Kilpatrick for the Evening Standard, one of Conte’s priorities in the coming transfer window will be to acquire an ‘understudy for Kulusevski’. That’s where Brereton Diaz could come in.

Spurs were reportedly looking at the prolific Championship striker over the summer, but no move was made at that time (Football.London). That interest now appears to be rekindled, according to 90min.

Apparently, ‘a number of Premier League giants ready to make their move,’ with Spurs among those with one eye on the 23 year old.

Brereton Diaz has ten goals to his name already this season (Transfermarkt) and after an impressive campaign last year, will be keen to step up to the Premier League.

With his contract at Blackburn Rovers up next summer, Brereton Diaz has reportedly ‘told the club’s hierarchy that he won’t be extending his stay.’ The Championship side will now have to decide whether to cash in on the player in January, or let him leave for free at the end of the season.

The reports suggest Spurs, Manchester United, West Ham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Wolves have all sent scouts to watch Brereton Diaz. Across Europe, the likes of Sevilla, Ajax, Union Berlin, Atalanta, Sassuolo and Salernitana have also been keeping an eye on the Chilean attacker.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ben Brereton Diaz has absolutely smashed it at Championship level and has also stepped up to the international stage fairly well, too. The step up to the Premier League is a different matter though, and we’ve often seen players struggle with that transition, but I’d be willing to take a gamble on Brereton Diaz.
