Report: Spurs among six PL clubs to scout striker in CL action this week

Tottenham were among six Premier League clubs to have scouts in attendance to watch Darwin Nunez in action for Benfica against Liverpool this week, according to the Express. 

Nunez has been in stellar form for the Portuguese side this season, tallying an impressive 28 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt). 

The Uruguay international was in action for his side’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Liverpool on Wednesday, where he impressed despite being on the end of a 3-1 defeat. 

He netted Benfica’s lone goal against the Reds and may have impressed a host of representatives from clubs in the English top watching on in the stands. 

The Express reports scouts from Spurs, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle and West Ham were watching the 22-year-old, who held his own against a tough defence comprised of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. 

The report also states that a number of other Premier League clubs were also in attendance in Lisbon, although it is not clear whether Nunez was their sole target.

Nunez has been in imperious form for Benfica this season, which makes it unsurprising that plenty of sides are tracking his progress. But he will cost a fair amount to prise out of Portugal considering his contract with the is not set to expire for another three years.
