Report: Spurs among the clubs to make approach for Bundesliga star

According to a report from German news outlet Express De, Tottenham Hotspur are among a whole host of European giants considering an approach to Borussia Monchengladbach over a January deal for midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Zakaria has gone on to establish himself as one of the most talented midfielders in the Bundesliga over the last couple of years and has also shined for Switzerland on the international stage, becoming a key player for Vladimir Petkovic’s side.

The report claims that apart from Spurs, the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Atlético Madrid are all tracking the combative midfielder.

Scouts from some of these clubs were reportedly present at Monchengladbach’s away game against Bayer Leverkusen this weekend and had to wait until the 69th minute to watch the 22-year-old in action as he started on the bench.

A report by Bild from two weeks ago claimed that Monchengladbach will demand around £44million for Zakaria in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the inflated nature of the transfer market for the past few years, £44 million represents great value for someone like Zakaria who has a lot of years ahead of him. However, it is clear that we are fairly well stocked in central midfield at the moment and need to prioritize other positions like full back during January.
