Report: Spurs among three leading clubs interested in £25.2m-rated midfielder

The print edition of O Jogo (27/04/22 edition – as relayed by Sport Witness) has named Tottenham Hotspur as one of three leading contenders for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Spurs reportedly had offers rejected by Sporting for Palhinha last summer (Daily Star) and they have been backed to reignite their interest in the Portugal international this summer (Record).

O Jogo have now stated that both the central midfielder and Sporting expect a move during this summer’s transfer window.

It is said that Spurs are studying Palhinha carefully but face competition from fellow Premier League side Wolves while Paris Saint-Germain are the other club credited with an interest in the 26-year-old.

The report adds that many other clubs are following the player but none of the approaches have reached the €30m (£25.2m) asking price that Sporting are demanding for the midfielder.

Finally, O Jogo add that if Palhinha does not have a strong finish to the season after recently returning from an injury, the Portuguese club might not be able to sell him for the aforementioned price.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Spurs will prefer to look within the Premier League for central midfield reinforcements. The likes of Ruben Neves, Youri Tielemans and Yves Bissouma could all be in the market this summer and none of them would need any time to settle down as Palhinha would.
