Report: Spurs among three Premier League clubs interested in Italy international

According to a report from Calciomercato.it, Tottenham Hotspur are among three Premier League clubs interested in signing Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne.

Insigne, whose current contract runs out at the end of the season, was also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar during the summer transfer window.

Previous reports had suggested that the Italian international’s wage demands are the biggest stumbling block to negotiations over a new contract.

The update from Calciomercato.it has now backed that up, revealing that Napoli are only willing to offer the 30-year-old a salary of €3.5m (£2.9) plus €1.5m (£1.2m) in bonuses, which is lower than the salary the player currently earns.

Insigne is said to be unhappy with the offer and is allegedly continuing to ‘look around’ for various options.

The report reveals that Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham United have all expressed an interest in bringing the Italy international to the Premier League.

However, it is explained that Inter Milan are the ‘most serious’, with the Nerrazuri already thought to have met with Insigne’s representatives on several occasions.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see there being any truth to Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Insigne. The winger is a little too old to be part of the club’s attempted rebuild and I also do not see him as a very good fit for Antonio Conte’s system. The jury is also out on whether he will be able to cope with the intensity and the physicality of the Premier League.
