Report: Spurs and Arsenal among clubs ‘in front row’ to sign Brazilian player

Speculation is mounting linking Tottenham Hotspur with Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao, with reports out of Italy suggesting the North London side are the frontrunners among many Premier League clubs courting his signature.

Becao joined the Serie A side in 2019 and has made 111 appearances for them since, scoring five goals and laying on three assists (Transfermarkt). It’s his defensive abilities that have been catching the eye of late, though.

The 26-year-old was subject of a report from Tutto Udinese last week, which linked the Brazilian with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. It’s well-documented that Spurs are looking to add to their defensive options, and Becao appears to fit the bill it seems.

Messaggero Veneto fueled the fire earlier this week by claiming Spurs were indeed circling, stating that the defender has the ‘most market’ among Spurs and Italian side Inter Milan.

Becao’s current deal expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt), and Messaggero Veneto suggest he would be willing to sign a new contract, but only if it includes a minimum release clause.

Now though, it appears the queue to secure his signature is growing. A new report from Tutto Udinese states that fellow Serie A side Torino have approached Udinese to try and snap Becao up before other clubs get involved.

Despite this, it sounds like the player himself prefers a move to England. The report says the “most interesting offers” are coming from the Premier League, with Tottenham, Arsenal, and Everton currently “in the front row” to sign the towering centre-half.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t say I know too much about Rodrigo Becao but he looks to be a very strong, combative defender who could slot into our style of play fairly easily. While there are probably better options out there, it’s good to know we are exploring lots of different possibilities.
