Report: Spurs and Arsenal are both monitoring England Under-21 starlet

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham and Arsenal have both expressed interest in Swansea City starlet, Nathan Wood, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Wood was a relative unknown when Swansea snapped him up from Middlesbrough last summer but the 20-year-old has blossomed since his loan switch to Wales.

The youngster has been a mainstay in the Swans backline this season and has occasionally even filled in as a defensive midfielder, having made 35 appearances in the Championship in 2022-23 (Transfermarkt).

Wood, who has represented England in every age group from Under-16s to Under-20s, made his debut for the U21s in their 2-1 defeat to Croatia at Craven Cottage last month.

Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that on the back of the central defender’s display for the Young Lions, both Spurs and Arsenal are now ‘monitoring’ him closely.

The journalist added that Swansea are now looking to offer Wood a new contract to ward off interest from the two North London clubs.

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is encouraging to see Spurs linked with up-and-coming young talents such as Wood and Alex Scott, I am not sure these youngsters would be particularly keen on making a move to the North London club.

They might view Djed Spence’s struggles to get game time as a cautionary tale.

The only way that could perhaps change is if Spurs appoint a head coach who has a track record of trusting young players.
