Report: Spurs and Arsenal considering deadline day bids for right-wing-back

According to The Northern Echo‘s live transfer blog (31/01/22 at 8:55 AM), Tottenham and Arsenal could go head-to-head for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham are expected to announce their capture of Juventus pair Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur shortly (Evening Standard).

However, it has been suggested they might not be the only two new faces to arrive through the door at Spurs before this evening’s deadline.

According to The Mirror, Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is also on Tottenham’s radar while the club are also thought to be keen on signing a right wing-back.

The Northern Echo have now suggested that Spence, who has excelled in the Championship over the last couple of years, is of interest to Antonio Conte’s men.

Spurs allegedly face competition for the 21-year-old from their fierce rivals Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta’s men also thought to be considering making an offer for the right-back.

The report adds that Spence would have to be loaned back to Forest for the remainder of the season should one of the two North London clubs complete a deal for him.

This is because the youngster cannot play for another club this season, having already featured for both Boro and Forest.

Spurs Web Opinion

I doubt this deal would happen today since Spence cannot represent Spurs this season. One would think that the club will likely decide to put the deal off until the summer, unless they are forced to push forward the move due to the fact that Arsenal are sniffing around. This move might also depend on whether or not Spurs are able to offload Matt Doherty.
