Report: Spurs and Arsenal could battle it out for French teenager

L’Equipe have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal could be set to battle it out for Rennes starlet Lesley Ugochukwu.

Ugochukwu has won admirers since breaking into the Rennes first-team this season.

The midfielder has only made 13 appearances for the Ligue 1 club but it appears that some clubs from across the continent have seen enough to be convinced that the youngster is indeed the real deal.

L’Equipe claim that both Spurs and Arsenal have been following the 18-year-old for ‘several weeks’ and seem ‘more and more convinced’ by the idea of snapping him up when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

The report adds that Arsenal consider Ugochukwu as the ‘next Patrick Vieira’ but Antonio Conte’s men will not allow their North London rivals to snap up the player without a fight.

In addition, Borussia Dortmund are also said to be monitoring the Rennes player’s situation closely ahead of the summer.

Having picked up two promising talents in Bryan Gil and Pape Sarr last summer, Fabio Paratici will likely continue that approach and look to bet on young players who he believes have the potential to explode in the future. As they did with Sarr, Spurs might be considering signing Ugochukwu and loaning him back to Rennes.
