Report: Spurs and Arsenal have made contact with club over signing 21-year-old

According to the print edition of The Mirror (13/03, p68), Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have both enquired to Middlesbrough about signing Djed Spence at the end of the season.

Spence has enjoyed an outstanding campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest, who are pushing for promotion to the Premier League, and the youngster’s displays have seemingly turned the heads of several Premier League clubs.

Spurs reportedly saw a £12m offer for the right-back knocked back by Middlesbrough at the end of the January transfer window (90min).

The likes of Liverpool and Arsenal are also thought to be interested in the 21-year-old (Northern Echo) while Bayern Munich are said to be keen on signing the youngster (Florian Plettenberg).

If The Mirror’s latest update is to be believed, the two North London clubs have made the first moves to snap up Spence in the summer. It is alleged that both Spurs and Arsenal have made contact with Boro over a potential deal for the right-back.

The report adds that Chris Wilder’s side will demand a minimum of £10m for the highly-rated defender in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like there could be a massive scramble for Spence in the summer, which is not surprising considering how well the 21-year-old has done at the City Ground this campaign.

Spurs are likely to prioritise singing a right wing-back and the Boro youngster certainly fits the bill in terms of the profile of players Tottenham tend to go for.
