Report: Spurs and Arsenal involved in transfer battle for £22m-rated defender

According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham and Arsenal are both interested in signing Getafe defender Djene Dakonam along with a handful of other Premier League clubs.

Everton, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth are also said to be tracking the 28-year-old central defender.

Dakonam has been one of the most consistent defenders in Spain over the past few years, having been named in the La Liga Teams of the Year for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons – first alongside Sergio Ramos and then Gerard Pique.

The report claims that Monaco already made a £12.8m bid for the Togo international earlier this month only for Getafe to turn the offer down. It is suggested that the La Liga club want around £22m to part ways with the experienced defender.

Tottenham’s next FA Cup opponents Southampton have also reportedly made an enquiry for Dakonam.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Alderweireld signing a contract extension and with Tanganga’s emergence, I am not sure a centre half is a priority anymore this month. I believe we can reassess the centre half situation in the summer and have more than enough options to cope for the remainder of the season. We should be focusing on signing a striker and a full back this month.
