Report: Spurs and Arsenal leading race for £44m-rated attacking midfielder

Tottenham and Arsenal are both said to be keen on landing Real Betis midfielder Nabil Fekir this summer, according to a report in Spanish publication Don Balon.

Fekir was Giovani Lo Celso’s replacement at Betis last summer as he joined the La Liga outfit from Lyon for a fee of around €30 million (Sportstar).

Don Balon now reports that the fee was not a representation of the Frenchman’s actual value and had only dropped due to the injury troubles that he was suffering from.

However, the midfielder now seems to have put his injury problems behind him and has put in some terrific displays for Betis this season.

It is reported that the 26-year-old has already asked to leave Betis at the end of the season and the Spanish club are willing to sell him for around €50 million.

While the report says Real Madrid and Barcelona have both enquired about Fekir, they suggest that Tottenham and Arsenal are the frontrunners for his signature as things stand.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t see where Nabil Fekir will fit in with us given that we have an abundance of attacking midfielders. Apart from Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli, I also expect Tanguy Ndombele to be deployed in a more offensive role next season. So, I can’t see us spending €50 million on Fekir just to have him as a backup.
