Report: Spurs and Arsenal-linked player close to signing new contract with PL club

The Telegraph have revealed that N’Golo Kante, who is rumoured to be a target for Tottenham and Arsenal, is now close to signing a new contract with Chelsea.

Kante has been at Chelsea since 2016 but his current deal at Stamford Bridge runs out in June (Transfermarkt).

Foot Mercato reported a few months ago that Spurs had made contact with the Frenchman amidst Chelsea’s unwillingness to offer him a new deal.

The report added that the World Cup winner prefers to remain in London, which could be an advantage to the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal.

However, The Telegraph’s latest update comes as a blow to the Lilywhites, with Kante now said to be on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new deal with the Blues.

The 31-year-old has been out with a hamstring injury since August and is yet to play a single game for Graham Potter.

However, it is explained that the Chelsea hierarchy have been holding talks with Kante over a new deal recently and they are now confident that an agreement is now close.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see why Conte would have wanted the Frenchman but I never really thought that he was a realistic target for Spurs.

Even if Kante had not agreed a new contract at Chelsea, I doubt the 31-year-old would have risked his legacy at the club by making a switch to their London rivals.
